A domain transfer will fail if these basics are not in order, so confirm them first:

• The domain is at least 60 days old — ICANN rules block transfers within 60 days of registration or a previous transfer.
• It is not expired or in redemption — renew first if it is close to expiry.
• Your contact email is current — the approval link is sent to the registrant email on file.

Step 1 — Unlock the domain

Log in to your current registrar and turn off the domain lock (sometimes called “transfer lock” or “registrar lock”). This security setting exists to prevent unauthorised transfers, so you must switch it off yourself.

Step 2 — Get the EPP / authorisation code
